Student-Run Credit Union

LOC Credit Union and Howell Public Schools have joined together for more than a decade in a partnership where students have managed and operated full-service credit unions in their very own schools.

Students ranging from fourth to eighth grade serve as the credit union employees, holding the positions of branch managers, tellers, member service guides, and marketing representatives. Students, staff, and families can actively conduct transactions on a weekly basis at their school. All participants benefit from the hands-on experience of handling their finances at a young age, gaining leadership skills, improving math practices, and developing independence for the future.

The student-run credit union program is in five of our elementary schools and both middle schools. LOC is always committed to the success of our communities’ youth and schools.
