The replacement Southwest Elementary is growing taller every day. Masonry teams are enclosing new spaces while walls and foundations continue to take shape. Even winter weather can’t slow the excitement as this new school comes to life right before our eyes.

October 15, 2025 - Work continues at the site of the replacement Southwest Elementary School, funded by the Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future Bond. Crews are making steady progress as the walls rise, outlining key areas such as the gymnasium, and the kindergarten and first-grade wing.

Southwest Elementary Construction Update
September 15, 2025 - Exciting progress is underway at the site of the replacement Southwest Elementary! Crews are busy building walls, roughing in electrical and plumbing systems, spotting duct openings, and installing the north storm chamber.

Foundations for the Future at Southwest
August 15, 2025 - At the site of the new Southwest Elementary, the outline of the building is beginning to take shape as foundations and footings are poured. Meanwhile, work is also progressing on the temporary playground.

Building the Future: Southwest Elementary Update
July 7, 2025 - Work is progressing at the site of the replacement Southwest Elementary! Stormwater and sewer systems are being installed, and one of the underground water detention systems is already complete. Crews are making steady progress on the trail to the future.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Replacement Southwest
April 22, 2025 - On Thursday, April 17, Howell Public Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially celebrate the start of construction on the replacement Southwest Elementary School. This significant milestone, made possible through the 2023 Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future bond proposal, brought together students, staff, families, Board of Education members, district leadership, and community members.

After a thorough bid review and selection process, contracts for the project have been awarded, and sitework is now in progress as construction gets underway.

The replacement Southwest Elementary is being thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s learners. It will feature flexible learning spaces that allow educators to tailor instruction and encourage student collaboration in meaningful ways. Bright, naturally lit classrooms and common areas will create a welcoming environment that promotes both academic growth and overall well-being.

Plans are Progressing for Replacement Southwest Elementary
January 28, 2025 - The replacement of Northwest Elementary and Southwest Elementary is progressing steadily, with both projects now in the final planning stages. Bids are currently out for key aspects of the construction. For Southwest Elementary, bids have been issued for earthwork and foundation work, while at Northwest Elementary, Howell Public Schools is receiving firm prime contractor bids for labor, materials, equipment, and other services needed for the project
