Board of Education Approves Bids for Bond Projects
Posted on 05/23/2024
At its meeting on Monday, May 13, the Board of Education approved three bids for projects funded or partially funded by the Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future Bond.
The first bid was for the construction of new youth baseball and softball fields at Three Fires Elementary in the amount of $1,794,263. The current fields are adjacent to Northwest Elementary and will be displaced by the construction of the replacement Northwest Elementary. The approved bid will construct nine ball fields and update two existing fields on the Three Fires Property. Work on this project is set to begin in early June.
The Board of Education also approved a bid of $644,680 to replace the turf field in the Parker Middle School Stadium, used by Howell High School's boys' and girls' soccer and lacrosse teams and Parker Middle School physical education classes. The current turf field is original to the building. Thanks to a comprehensive maintenance program, we have extended its use well past the average 10 to 12 years of a turf field's typical life. This project is set to begin in September 2024.
The final bid approved by the Board of Education was for replacing the building automation controls at Three Fires Elementary for $638,859. This system allows for remote monitoring and adjustments to the heating and cooling systems at the school. The current building automation system at Three Fires Elementary is original to the building and is not compatible with new controllers, which has severely limited the district's maintenance department in maintaining the system. This project will begin in June and will be funded partially by the remaining funds from the district's 2019 bond, with the remaining funds coming from the Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future bond.
