Students with a U of M flag4/29/2022 - On Friday, April 22, Howell High School held its annual Decision Day celebration. Decision Day celebrates the graduating seniors and their post-secondary education plans. The event included a parade of seniors holding signs representing their post-secondary plans and guest speaker Laura Hoehn, Livingston Educational Service Agency, career and college readiness coordinator. Students from Howell High School, Highlander Way Middle School, Parker Middle School, and three of the district’s elementary schools attended the event.

“Decision Day is a time to celebrate our seniors and their plans for their future. We have students who will be attending college, entering the military, starting trade school, and entering the workforce,” said Lisa O’Connor, Howell High School assistant principal. “As part of the Highlander College and Career Council’s work, we invite fifth-grade students and eighth-grade students to the event to help inspire them to start thinking about their future plans.”

Decision Day is the third event that Howell High School has hosted to help promote a college-going culture. In the fall, seniors participated in College Application Month, where all seniors were encouraged to apply to at least one college. The school also held a College Cash Campaign which taught students and parents about the various forms of financial aid available to help pay for college and promoted completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
