Set in Hollywood in the 1980’s “Rock of Ages” features many of the rock classics from the time. The musical takes place in the Bourbon Room, a music venue run by Dennis Dupree (Brendan Shepard and his assistant Lonny (Lucas Somers). When small-town girl Sherrie Christian (Brooke Studebaker) arrives in Hollywood to pursue a career in acting, she meets Drew (Lucas Nolen), a busboy at the Bourbon Room. Drew convinces Dennis to hire Sherrie, and the relationship between Sherrie and Drew starts to blossom. However, the future of the Bourbon Room is in jeopardy when the Mayor (Mason Burley) plans to demolish it and the Sunset Strip. To try and raise money and stop the demolition, Dennis plans a star-studded event featuring lock legend Stacee Jaxx (Ethan Norton). However, Stacee’s ego leaves destruction in his wake, calling Drew and Sherrie’s relationship and the future of the Bourbon Room into question. Musical numbers in the show include “We Built this City,” “I Wanna Rock,” and “Don’t Stop Believin.’”

The Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center is located at 1200 W. Grand River on the north side of Howell High School.
