Robert Klein with his award.6/4/21 - Robert Klein, a business and technology teacher at Howell High School, has been honored by the Michigan Marketing Educators Association (MME) with its Dr. Jack T. Humbert Outstanding New Marketing Professional Award. Annually MME recognizes an educator who has managed an exceptional marketing education program during the start of his or her career with the award. Klein, who has been with the district for three years, has helped increase participation in the school’s DECA chapter, increased enrollment in business courses, and helped manage the start of the Howell Business Academy (HBA). Klein teaches several business and technology courses at the school, including Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, and Web Page Design.

“We are lucky to have Robert on the team here in Howell. His passion for business education has led to increased enrollment in our business courses and our DECA chapter. In his short time at Howell High School, he has helped grow our DECA chapter by 200% and has had students advance to the international DECA competition.,” said Jason Schrock, Howell High School Principal. “Additionally, Robert has created new opportunities for students to grow and learn through the Howell Business Academy.”

“I am honored and grateful to be the recipient of this award from the MME committee. Although it’s an individual award it’s a Howell DECA and business department award. It’s very exciting to see the increase of student involvement and growth in our department the past few years,” said Klein. “I love the opportunity to teach in the CTE (Career Technical Education) department. The flexibility in the classroom allows us to instill the HPS motto of empowering students to be successful citizens and future ready when they leave HHS. “

After learning he had been nominated for the award, Klein had to create a dossier, including his resume, letters of recommendation, an overview of the school’s business and marketing program, and his contributions to the school and community. In one letter of recommendation, Nathan Oake, Hartland DECA Advisor, states, “Robert Klein wholeheartedly supports the Howell DECA Chapter, and he has put tremendous energy into growing and marketing this program. He has seen and experienced firsthand just how important a co-curricular organization can be in energizing a student population and giving them purpose - and he has found creative ways to foster and support this program in Howell.”

Klein holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Eastern Michigan University, where he also completed the school’s Post Baccalaureate Teaching Program. Prior to joining Howell Public Schools, Klein completed his student teaching at Hartland High School.
