MacGregor's Message 1/4/19
Dear Families,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and that your 2019 is off to a great start. I am looking forward to all of the wonderful things this year will bring for our district.

The month of January is School Board Recognition Month. This is an opportunity to show our sincere appreciation to the Howell Public Schools Board of Education for their hard work and dedication to our students, teachers, staff, and community. Our seven board members spend countless hours preparing for and attending various meetings, visiting schools, and working to ensure that each Howell student has the opportunities to succeed. Additionally, each Board of Education member is an advocate for public education and for each one of our more than 7,000 students. During this month, when you see a school board member at a game, visiting your child’s school, or at a community event, please take a moment to thank them for all they do for our district.

Next Wednesday, January 9, from 6 to 7 p.m., I will host my second Coffee Chat of the school year. The chat will be held at the Little Highlanders Learning Center at 861 E. Sibley Street. Attending a Coffee Chat is an excellent opportunity to hear updates on the district and ask any questions that you may have regarding Howell Public Schools. Two of our high school students earned honors in the 2019 North American International Auto Show Poster Contest, and one of our FIRST Tech Challenge teams is heading to the FIRST Robotics World Championship. Next week, our high school Unified Champion Schools Basketball and PomPon teams will host their first home game. I have shared more on each of these stories below.

Team KAOS Claims Second Place at FTC State Finals
One of our FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams, Team #8646 Team KAOS, excelled at the FIRST In Michigan FTC State Finals. They won first place in their division and ended the competition as the second place team in the state. This qualified the team to advance to the FIRST Robotics World Championship, which will be held in April at Cobo Center in Detroit. Our other two FTC teams had advanced to the playoff matches in their division before being eliminated. To read more about Team #8646 Team KAOS’ accomplishment, please visit https://goo.gl/W1ygcy.
