Today, Howell High School hosted the first of many celebrations of the Class of 2026. Decision Day celebrates each senior and their post-secondary education plans. From attending college or university to entering the trades or workforce, to serving our country in the armed forces, our seniors have bright futures. It is always exciting to see the plans our students have for their time after Howell High School. Students from our elementary and middle schools joined the school-wide assembly as part of our work to help inform younger students about post-secondary options. The Howell Public Schools Coordinated School Health and Wellness Committee is discussing guidelines for the healthy use of technology in school, including potential updates to the district's cell phone policy and 1:1 program. To inform their work, we will be sending a survey to all families on Tuesday, April 28. Your feedback will help inform the committee's work. Additionally, the Coordinated School Health and Wellness Team will host a public forum to discuss these proposed guidelines on Tuesday, May 12, at 5:30 PM in the Howell High School Commons (adjacent to the auditorium) prior to the HHS Band concert.
Wednesday was National Administrative Professionals Day, and across our district, we are fortunate to have an incredibly dedicated team of administrative professionals supporting our schools. They are the friendly voices answering the phone, the warm welcome for visitors in our buildings, and a caring source of support for our students and staff. Behind the scenes, they play a vital role in keeping our schools and offices running smoothly each day. I am truly grateful for our administrative professionals and their dedication to our students, staff, and families.
On Tuesday, April 28, at 6 p.m., Howell High School will host this year’s TEDEd Talks. The TEDEd event is always inspirational and showcases our students' voices. During this event, students take the stage to share ideas they are passionate about, demonstrating confidence and creativity. This year, seven students will present on topics ranging from leadership to the importance of family and the power of “failing forward.” The TEDEd Talks are free and open to the public and will be held at the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center. We hope you will join us for an engaging and inspiring evening celebrating student voice.
Construction on the replacement Northwest and Southwest elementary schools continues to progress. At Southwest Elementary, crews are constructing walls, installing plumbing and electrical conduit, and placing steel roof decking. To see the progress at both sites, please watch the videos below.
