MacGregor's Message 8/31/2023

Dear Families,

The 2023-34 school year is off to a fantastic start. It has been great visiting our schools and seeing our students and staff excited for another year of learning, growth, and fun.

In this edition of MacGregor’s Message

  • HHS students spread cheer to senior citizens
  • Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future Bond Proposal informational meetings
  • Varsity Football home opener and reminders
  • Early Childhood Education Department job openings
  • Highlander Reading Express Book Return

Students on the public relations team in Howell High School’s Marketing II class started the school year with a service project to spread cheer to senior citizens in the community. Bella Hodge, Owen White, and Aliya Ferrand created over 1,600 cards to be included with meals delivered through the Meals on Wheels program. Aliya’s grandparents receive meals through the program, so she knew first-hand how much joy a simple card can bring to a senior citizen.

We have scheduled two informational meetings on the Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future Bond Proposal. The first of these meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the Northwest Elementary Media Center. The second informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 25, at 5:30 p.m. in the Edinburg Room at the District’s Central Office. At these meetings, we will provide an overview of the bond proposal and answer any questions you may have. You can also visit HowellSchools.com/Bond to learn more about the Our Kids, Our Community, Our Future Bond Proposal.

Our varsity football team has its home opener tonight at 7 p.m. in Howell High School’s Memorial Stadium. The atmosphere at our games is always great, as our students, families, and community come together to cheer on the Highlanders. In addition to being the team’s home opener, Thursday will be youth football night, and we will host our youth football players, cheerleaders, and pompon girls. Halftime will feature a performance by youth pompon and two youth football teams. Below are a few reminders and updates for the Athletic Department about the game.

  • All tickets are $6.00. We will accept cash at the gate.
  • Season passes will be available for purchase at the ticket booth at the main entrance.
  • No advanced seat saving will be permitted on varsity football nights. No blankets or stadium seats will be allowed to be placed in the grandstand before the gates open.

We have several job opportunities in our Early Childhood Education Department. These include jobs at our Little Highlander’s Learning Center, which houses our daycare and preschool programs, and openings for our school-based before and after care programs. If you or anyone you know is interested, please visit https://bit.ly/3tBVrA7 to complete an interest form, and someone from the department will reach out.

As we wrap up another great summer with the Highlander Reading Express, there are still books that need to be returned. If your child still has a book checked out from the Highlander Reading Express, please have them return it to the main office at their school.

Sincerely,
Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S.
Superintendent
Howell Public Schools
