Dear Families,
It was a great week in Highlander Nation! Today we surprised Danielle Wlodarczak, a kindergarten teacher at Challenger Elementary, with the 2022-2023 Howell Public Schools Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs. Wlodarczak is known for her dedication to all students, her desire to continually improve her teaching methods, and her unwavering support of school, district, and community events. In her nominations, Mrs. Wlodarczak was named a kindergarten magician, the kindergarten whisperer, and the world’s greatest kindergarten teacher. Each day, Mrs. Wlodarczak ensures that all students feel loved and respected. She instills the love of learning in all students and works to make connections with each student at Challenger. Highlander Nation is a better place because we have Mrs. Wlodarczak working with our students. Below is a short video of the surprise award presentation. This week is National School Counseling Week, which highlights the essential contribution of school counselors in schools and the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. I am so proud of the teams of elementary, middle, and high school counselors we have supporting our students. The list of the various ways that our counselors support students is pages long. They promote mental wellness, encourage kindness, connect families with resources, help students plan for the future, and more. Please join me in thanking our school counselors for all they do for our students.
Last week, Howell High Schools Interact Club hosted its annual Ribbon Warriors fundraiser. Ribbon Warriors was created to support Howell Public Schools families affected by cancer. The club planned various activities throughout the week to support its fundraising efforts. Thanks to the generosity of our students, families, and community, the Interact Club exceeded their fundraising of $3,000 and raised almost $10,000. In a very unexpected and much-appreciated surprise, the Interact Club presented my family and me with a donation to Hope Scarves, a non-profit that supports women battling breast cancer founded by my sister-in-law. Moments like this remind me how lucky I am to be part of this great district.
It is no secret that we have an incredible performing arts program at Howell Public Schools. We have talented students and excellent instructors at all levels. Several Howell High School choral groups and students recently participated in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s Solo and Ensemble Festival. At the event, each performance from Howell received a top rating of Excellent. The Men’s Varsity Choir, Highlander Chorale Choir, and several individual singers received a perfect score of 30 out of 30. This is an incredible accomplishment that highlights the hard work and dedication of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S.
