MacGregor's Message 12/16/2022
Dear Families,

Today, the Howell High School Class of 2023 officially announced the Senior Survivor 2023 Charity. This year, Senior Survivor will be raising money to create the Highlander Hownds, a group of therapy dogs serving the students and staff of Howell Public Schools. The goal of the students is to raise enough money to bring a therapy dog to each school in the district and create a solid foundation of funding for the care of the dogs and ensure the longevity of the Highlander Hownds program. You can watch the Senior Survivor Charity Announcement video at https://youtu.be/DINsx-6N3wA.

Last Wednesday, the Highlander Way Middle School sixth grade choir performed at the Howell Senior Center Holiday Luncheon. The students did a fantastic job singing and represented the district very well. We are lucky to have such a strong performing arts program in Howell, and I love that our staff continues to find new ways to share the talents of our students with our community.

Last weekend five of the district’s FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams competed at the FIRST in Michigan FLL State Championship event. The teams, the Radioactive Robots, the Super Bots, the Cosmic Cruisers, the Wire Cats, and the Brick Bosses, all earned the right to compete at the state event based on their performances at various qualifying events. As I write these updates, four of our five FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams are competing at the FTC State Championship Event. Teams KAOS, KUDOS, KRASH, and KARMA advanced to the state event based on the results of several qualifying events. On Monday, the Christmas Elves program literally dropped off a truckload of holiday cheer for Howell families in need this holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Christmas Elves program supported 369 students and 95 families living in Brighton and Howell this holiday season. I want to thank the Christmas Elves team for including Howell in this program. I also need to thank our school counselors who coordinate this program in our district.

Each year, I select student artwork to be included on my annual holiday card. Typically, we choose artwork done at school, but this year, we invited students to create a piece of holiday artwork and send it in. I received over 25 pieces of artwork, each of which was incredible. It was very hard to choose just one, so hard that we picked three. The artwork was created by Avery L. from Challenger Elementary. Luke M from Northwest Elementary and Macy Z. from Southwest Elementary. You can see their artwork on the card below.

I hope you have a happy holiday season and a restful and relaxing holiday break.

Sincerely,
Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S
