MacGregor's Message 8/29/2024

Dear Families,

I hope your child has had a great start to the school year. I’ve had the chance to visit all of our schools, and it has been wonderful to see our students' excitement.

In this edition of MacGregor’s Message

  • Southwest and Three Fires Elementary schools receive book vending machines

  • Transportation update

  • Job openings at Howell Public Schools

  • No school, Friday, August 30 - Monday, September 2

Over the summer, Southwest and Three Fires Elementary schools received new book vending machines. The machines were made possible thanks to two generous grants from the Community Foundation for Livingston County and the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club/Livingston Educational Service Agency. The book vending machines promote a love of reading in students and reinforce our district’s literacy initiatives. I am so thankful for the partnership with these community groups. We are actively applying for additional grants to provide book vending machines for Hutchings Elementary and Voyager Elementary.

I want to acknowledge that we have had some bumps in the road with our bus routes and transportation to start the school year, and for that, I sincerely apologize. While our transportation team has worked diligently to develop bus routes to get students to and from school safely, we understand that we could have done better to ensure a smoother start. We are actively addressing these issues and are committed to improving. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to provide the reliable service our students and families expect and deserve.

Like many school districts and businesses around our area and state, we are struggling to fill some of our critical hourly positions. We have immediate openings within our Kids Kare program and for special education paraprofessionals and general education aides. You can view all of our current job opportunities at HowellSchools.com/Jobs.

Please remember that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, August 30 or Monday, September 2 in honor of the Labor Day holiday. I hope you and your families have an enjoyable weekend, and Go Highlanders!

Sincerely,

Erin J. MacGregor, Ed.S.
