12/19/17 –  A district-wide canned food drive planned by students in Howell High School’s leadership class collected 25,769 canned goods and $1,679 in donations to support Gleaner’s Community Food Bank. This exceeded the students' goal of collecting 24,000 canned goods to help those in need. Leading the donations in the drive was Howell High School with 8,895 cans, followed by Hutchings Elementary with 3,485 cans and Southwest Elementary with 3,412 cans.

“Once again the students of Howell Public Schools showed their generosity in a big way during the canned food drive,” said Gabby DiNatale-Park, one of Howell High School’s leadership teachers. “We surpassed our goal by more than 1,000 canned goods, which is just amazing. I am so proud of our student body and thankful for the support of our community partners like LOC Federal Credit Union who allowed us to place a donation box in their Howell branch.”

Gleaners Community Food Bank provides those in need with access to sufficient nutritious food and resources. The organization operates five distribution centers across Southeast Michigan.
