Recently students and staff at Southwest Elementary gathered for a
ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the school’s new playground
equipment. Over the summer crews installed new swings, structures and
even a Gaga Ball Pit to make recess fun and enjoyable for all students.
Known as a kinder version of dodge ball, Gaga Ball has become a popular
game during which students use a soft foam ball to try and hit their
opponents below their knees while they avoid being hit. Southwest
Elementary students are learning how to play Gaga Ball during their
physical education classes.
“Our students really enjoy the new
playground equipment and Gaga Ball Pit,” said Jennifer Goodwin,
Southwest Elementary School principal. “I am so thankful for the
dedication of our PTO and the generosity of our community, both of which
made this project possible.”
The majority of the Southwest
Elementary School playground upgrades were paid for by the fundraising
efforts of the school’s PTO. Howell Public Schools did help cover a
small portion of the costs from its capital improvement fund.
