On Monday, Aug. 22, the Howell Public Schools Board of Education approved the hiring of Danielle Schmidt as the new assistant principal of Parker Middle School. Schmidt has been an elementary teacher in the district for ten years.

“Danielle has been an asset to Howell Public Schools for the past ten years. During that time she has volunteered for school, district and regional education committees all with the goal of improving the district,” said Erin MacGregor, Howell Public Schools superintendent. “As a classroom teacher, she has always looked for ways to create new and exciting learning opportunities for her students. Based on these qualities and her formal education, I know that Danielle will excel as assistant principal at Parker Middle School.”

“Parker Middle School is very lucky to have Danielle Schmidt joining the staff as our new assistant principal. She brings ten years of experience teaching elementary school in Howell,” said Patricia Poelke, Parker Middle School principal. “Besides being an excellent teacher, she has been an active part of several district initiatives to provide our students with the best educational experience and increase student achievement. She has always built great relationships with her students and will continue to do so with the Parker student body. “

“It has been my pleasure serving the students and families of Howell Public Schools for the past ten years as a classroom teacher. I am honored to accept the position of Parker Middle School assistant principal and eager to embrace the opportunity to serve the students, families and staff at Parker,” said Schmidt. “It is an incredible learning community with an exceptional staff. I am eager to begin what is sure to be a great year.”

Prior to coming to Howell Public Schools in 2006, Schmidt was a kindergarten teacher and middle school literacy specialist in Pinckney Community Schools. She has also worked as a guest teacher for the Livingston Educational Service Agency. Schmidt has served on several district and school committees including the Curriculum and Assessment Committee, the Teacher Evaluation Committee and an Early Literacy Research Committee. She is also involved in numerous community organizations.

Schmidt holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University, a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning from Marygrove College and an Educational Leadership degree from the University of Michigan-Flint.
