For the 3rd year in a row, a number of Howell Public Schools are participating in a spring food drive for Gleaners Food Bank. Each of the participating schools is collecting an item that Gleaners tends to have a higher demand of during the summer months. Almost 27% of our Southwest students currently receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch here at school each week day. When summer comes, this source of food and nutrition is gone. Many of our families are also experiencing financial hardship. The food bank is a huge source of support for many of our Southwest families.

This year, Southwest is responsible for collecting pancake mix and syrup. Pancake mix and plastic bottles of syrup should be placed in the collection bins in the front hallway outside of the cafeteria.

The collection drive ends on Friday, May 30, 2008.
