Students in Howell High School who meet the academic requirement (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher) are asked to complete an application and return it to the Media Center no later than March 3, 2008. Student applications and teacher recommendations will be used to determine eligibility in the other areas required. All eligible students should receive an invitation via mail.

 

The process involves two parts. An application form is attached. It is imperative that the application is completed with care and thoroughness. Make certain to fully complete the questions asked. Do not be modest! The faculty council will review the application and judge it based on presentation and content.

 

The committee will also consider feedback from faculty to evaluate character and leadership abilities. Each student’s name will appear on a list for the faculty to anonymously comment on character and leadership using the attached criteria. Any ratings in character or leadership below a “3” will be reviewed by the faculty council. This committee consists of five faculty members (NHS advisors are not included) who meet to review applications and teacher recommendations. Once all selections have been made written notification of acceptance or non-selection will be mailed. Specific reasons for non-selection, including faculty comments, will not be revealed.
