SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

 

The guidance office has received information about several scholarship opportunities. If you are interested in applying for any of the scholarships, please stop by the guidance office for an application and additional information.

Scholarships are received by the Guidance Office throughout the school year. Please check back on this web page for more information.

 

Kettering University Technology Award

Criteria: This award is for high school JUNIORS who are interested in engineering, mathematics, technology, or sciences. They must have a positive attitude, demonstrate problem-solving skills, have leadership qualities and have a minimum 3.2 GPA. Selection of the student will be by a participating high school staff.

Ferris State University: 9th Annual Spaghetti Bridge Competition

Criteria: In this competition, high school students from all over Michigan select a bridge. They then construct an authentic replica made to scale using spaghetti and lasagna, then present a written report and an oral presentation to judges. Finally, bridges are judged by how much weight they can hold.

Award: 4 1st place scholarships: $2,000/ 4 2nd place scholarships: $1,000/ 4 3rd place scholarships: $500

Amount: Scholarship Search lists over 1.68 million awards, totaling nearly $7.69 billion available aid.

Olivet College: High School Guidance Counselor Scholarship Program

Criteria: Applicants must be admitted to Olivet College. Applicants must also have at least a 3.0 GPA and 19 or higher on the ACT. They should also be good students and responsible leaders who demonstrate financial need and they must be US citizens who reside in the state of Michigan.

Award: $2,000 per year for four years equaling a total of $8,000 per qualified student

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Criteria: Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll in college. Students must be of Hispanic heritage, be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and apply for federal financial aid using FAFSA.

America's Homecoming Queen: Leaders of Tomorrow - 28th Annual Community Service and Educational Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is for high school women who have excelled in their academic pursuits and in community service. Applicants are also selected based on leadership ability and their dedication to achieving dreams and goals. Applicants must fill out and submit the application, and they must submit a color or black and white photograph of themselves which should be no larger than 4"x6".

College Answer's Free Scholarship Search

Visit the website www.CollegeAnswer.com/KFC to do a free scholarship search! This provides access to an award database containing over 2.8 million scholarships worth in excess of $16 billion.

 

Lawrence Technological University: Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics

Criteria: Nominations Only Nominees must be juniors during the academic year of 2006-2007. They must complete at least one year of chemistry and two years of college preparatory mathematics courses with distinction by June 2007. Nominees must be active and responsible citizens of the school and community. They must have at least a 3.0 GPA, and they must have an ACT score of 22 or higher.

Award: $8,000 ($2000 each year, renewable for 4 years).

Henry Ford Community College: "Henry Ford II Honors Program"

Criteria: Applicants should have a 3.5 GPA or an ACT of 24 or higher. The program is open to part-time and full-time students. Applicants must also submit an Honors Program application form along with their high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor. Applicants must also submit a general college application form and a high school transcript to the HFCC Admissions Office.

Award: Full tuition scholarships to the Honors Program

Aquinas College Scholarships

Aquinas College will be awarding full-tuition scholarships to the best and the brightest applicants. Numerous partial scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership, and service will be awarded as well. Purdue University Freshman Scholars Program: Merit Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be freshmen at Purdue in the fall of 2007.

Award: $1500.

Davenport University 5K Platinum Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors. They must have a GPA of at least 3.4 or an ACT score of 23 or a SAT score of 1080. See the website for additional requirements. Wayne State University: College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be high school seniors or recent high school graduates. Applicants must fulfill admission requirements to Wayne State. Applicants must also send a WSU application for admission (attach admission fee and follow directions for forwarding school transcript(s) and test scores) to the WSU Admissions Office. Please also complete a talent scholarship application and attach a copy of your school transcript. Be willing to audition or submit a portfolio and supply any additional information requested by required deadline date. You must major in the talent area (Art, Music, Theatre, Dance) or participate in Debate and/or Forensics.

Award: The scholarships provide funds approximately equal to half of the cost of tuition. Amounts may vary.

Criteria: This is available to graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll in college, community college students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university, currently enrolled college students, and graduate and professional students. Students must be of Hispanic heritage, be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and apply for federal financial aid using FAFSA.

Wayne State University University Scholar

Criteria: This is a special program at Wayne State University for National Merit, National Achievement and National Hispanic Recognition program finalists.

Award: The scholarship package includes 4 years of full tuition for up to 32 credits per year, room and board in a university residence hall, $1,500 annual book stipend, one-time study-abroad allowance of $2,500, laptop computer, admission to the Honors Program.

Lansing Community College Scholarship Programs

There are many scholarships available for students who plan to attend Lansing Community College in the 2007-2008 academic year. Youth for Understanding National Scholarships

Youth for Understanding is a foreign exchange program for high school students interested in foreign study. Youth for Understanding offers over 300 scholarships each year to high school students! Visit www.yfu-usa.org or call 1-800-TEENAGE for an application and for additional information.

 

Lansing Community College: H.O.P.E. Scholars

Criteria: This is available for students who participated in the H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Excel) scholarship program six years ago.

Pomona College Scholarships

Pomona College will eliminate loans in financial aid packages and replace those amounts with scholarships, effective 2008-2009. The change will apply to both current and future students and was approved by the College's Board of Trustees on Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
