HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL

STUDENT/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thursday, May 8, 2008

Staff:  When the date is in green, it is a green week.  When it is in black (because gold doesn’t show up very well) it’s a gold week.

The trash on Wright Road is a problem for local residents and we must be good neighbors.  Do not be surprised if law enforcement will be present to enforce littering ordinances resulting in costly fines to any student that litters.

Students that park outside the designated parking areas near the stadium are parking in a fire lane.  Parking in a fire lane is a significant fine.

Students must carry their i.d. on their person at all times during school and during school functions.

Students please do not leave items unattended.  We have had a number of thefts as a result of students leaving personal belongings unattended and walking away from them.  Your items are your responsibility, please take care of them.

Students using the elevator are required to have permission in writing. Any student using the elevator with out permission will be subject to behavior consequences.

Attention Students – The fieldhouse is an unauthorized area unless you have a class scheduled during the day or a scheduled team practice.  The facilities are not available for student use without a coach being present.

Students are expected to bus their own trays and keep the cafeteria clean.

***************

Attention Seniors:  Fourth quarter is upon us and 4th quarter expectations.  The following applies to you:  Students, in the process of maturing and of pursuing an education in our school system, sometimes make choices that disrupt, embarrass, threaten and hurt themselves, their peers, our employees, their families, and school and community property.  Such behaviors demand a school response in the form of consequences.  As the days in a student’s school year wane, the schools ability to give (typical) consequences (detention, in-school, and out of school suspension) are reduced.  Students sometimes recognize this and use the final quarter of their school year as an opportunity to engage in behaviors that call for long-term exclusion from school.  As of the fourth quarter for seniors, time for providing traditional consequences for misbehavior is reduced; as a result the school will examine the withholding of events of privilege to consequence students ill-advised behaviors.  Should a qualified graduating senior engage in any of the aforementioned activities in the final quarter preceding his/her graduation, the school shall exact the following consequences for such behaviors:  10 days-suspension or the remainder of the school year, whichever is greater; Whenever the high school administration determines that a graduating senior should be suspended long-term (in excess of 10 school days), a tribunal consisting of the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Staff Development and Assessment shall conduct a due-process hearing to determine whether or not the student should be suspended for the balance of the senior year and further whether or not evens of privilege should be denied.  Those events include, but are not limited to:
