KENSINGTON LAKES ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION

WRESTLING BY-LAWS

I. SCHEDULE
Duals:
1 – “Kick Off” Conference Quad (Include JV) / 3 Mats / 3 Officials / WEDNESDAY
1 – Single Divisional Dual (Include JV) / 2 Mats / 2 Officials / WEDNESDAY
_____(Host school may invite other non-conference teams to create a quad meet.)
2 – Divisional Quads (Include JV) / 3 Mats / 3 Officials / WEDNESDAY
1 – Assoc. Championship Quad (Include JV) / 3 Mats / 3 Officials / FRIDAY
Championship Quad will be the week before the Individual Conference Championships.

Dual Times:
3:00PM HOME weigh-in the day of the competition
5:30PM – Wrestling Begins

Tournaments:
1 – Individual Conference Championship / 4 Mats Minimum / 5 Officials / SATURDAY
This will be the week before Team & Individual Districts.
Teams are limited to one (1) individual per weight class.

5:30PM HOME weigh-in the day before the competition.
7:00PM Seeding meeting (at the host location)
9:00AM – Wrestling Begins

Tie Breaker: Tie breakers for determining standing for Crossover.
A: Head-to-head record of the teams involved.
B: Comparisons of wins and losses in the Division starting with the top teams and working downward in the standings until an edge on the tied opponent is determined.
C: Fewest total team points allowed in Divisional duals.

II. DAYS TO BE SCHEDULED
Wednesday – Duals & Quads
Friday – Championship Quad
Saturday – Individual Conference Meet

III. CHAMPIONSHIP
Team:
- Division: Team Division champion will be determined by dual meet record within the Division.
- Conference: Team Individual Conference champion will be determined by the first dual in the Association Championship Quad.
- Association: The Team Association champion will be determined by the second and final dual in the Championship Quad meet.

Individual:
The Individual Conference meet will be held the Saturday before Team Districts.
Wrestlers will be seeded by coaches prior to the Conference meet.

IV. ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS
Medals will be awarded to the top four (4) place winners in each weight class in
the Individual Conference meet. No more medals than the number indicated in the by-laws will be awarded.

V. TEAM AWARDS
Division: Team Champion shall receive a permanent award.
Conference: Team Champion shall receive a permanent award.
Association: Team Champion shall receive a permanent award.

VI. KENSINGTON LAKES ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (KLAA), NATIONAL FEDERATION, and MHSAA RULES and REGULATIONS
All association weigh-ins will be home weigh-ins.

Admission fee is determined by individual district. Individual tickets will not exceed $5.00. (No passes accepted for MHSAA tournament events)

Grade Level: 7th and 8th

Season: Winter II

Length of Season: January 23 – February 15 (Preparation / Practice) - - February 18 – March 28 (League Competition)

Days of Competition: Monday and Wednesday (Wrestling will compete opposite of Girls Basketball on Mon/Wed)

Start Time: 4:00PM

Number of Contests: MHSAA Regulated Maximum # of Contests (12)

Rule Book: MHSAA and National Federation Rules for Wrestling (See exceptions below)

Dual Meets: In dual or tournament competition, matches shall consist of three periods, one and one-half minutes each. An overtime match, shall observe rule 6, section 7 except that the overtime period shall be a maximum of one minute. The overtime tie-breaker period will remain a maximum of thirty seconds.

Weight Certification:

1. The parent, coach, and principal will mutually agree on the lowest minimum weight at which the wrestler may compete.
2. The agreement shall be in writing and kept on file by the principal.
3. The lowest weight at which a wrestler may compete shall be the weight class(es) for which the athlete’s actual weight qualifies him at the first competition following two weeks of team practice (but not lower that agreed upon minimum). Two weeks of practice shall be interpreted as ten days of on the mat practice.

Weight Classes: 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 137, 145, 155, 167, 185, and Heavyweight.
All contestants in Heavyweight class must weigh at least 168 lbs. The maximum weight allowable for heavyweight wrestlers shall not exceed 250 lbs.
Exhibitions will only be held at the discretion of the coaches.

Weigh-Ins: Home weigh-ins will be conducted at each respective school the day before the scheduled competition. A school administrator, or his/her designee*, must be in attendance and verify with his/her signature. ( not a wrestling coach).

Officials:

1 MHSAA registered official
2 adult workers (Timer/Scorer)

MHSAA Recommended Rules (FYI): 1. Maximum of 12 weigh-ins per season for teams and students.
2. Contestant limitation of two weigh-ins per week.
3. Season shall be restricted to 13 consecutive weeks with a limit of 60 days of practice and/or competition.
4. Three weigh-ins may occur one time during one week (Monday through Sunday) of the Junior High/Middle School season.
