Preamble:
The member schools of the Kensington Lakes Activities Association support the educational philosophy of providing equitable co-curricular, extracurricular and interscholastic competition experiences for our students. Member schools commit to meeting the needs of all our students and our communities by promoting the following:
• Comprehensive interscholastic athletic programs
• Student involvement in clubs and activities
• Positive interaction of member school students
• Development of high standards of ethics, conduct, leadership and sportsmanship |
Section A – Charter Membership. This association was formed through the merger of the Kensington Valley Conference and the Western Lakes Activities Association. The members of this conference are the following high schools: Brighton, Canton, Hartland, Howell, Lakeland, Livonia Churchill, Livonia Franklin, Livonia Stevenson, Milford, Northville, Novi, Parker, Pinckney, Plymouth, Salem, South Lyon, South Lyon East, Walled Lake Central, Walled Lake Northern, Walled Lake Western, Westland John Glenn, and Wayne Memorial.
Section B - Current Membership
This association currently consists of the high schools from the following school districts: Brighton Area Schools, Hartland Consolidated Schools, Howell Public Schools, Huron Valley Schools, Livonia Public Schools, Northville Public Schools, Novi Community Schools, Pinckney Community Schools, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, South Lyon Community Schools, Walled Lake Consolidated Schools, and Wayne-Westland Community Schools, and Waterford Area Schools.
Section C – Organization
This association shall be divided into conferences and divisions as approved by the Board of Directors.
Section D – New Members
1. Interest in membership in this association shall be made in writing to the Association President.
2. A three-fourths approval by the Board of Directors is needed for admission into the league or a merger with another league.
Section E – Withdrawal
Intent of withdrawal must be submitted to the Association in writing at least one year in advance of the intended termination date.
Section F – Removal
A school may be removed from the Association by a three-fourths approval of the Board of Directors.
Section G – Membership Voting
After notification of withdrawal has been accepted, a school has no vote on future membership. |
Section A – Control of the affairs of this association shall be vested in the Executive Board. Officers will be comprised of two principals of each division (8 total), one athletic director and one student activities director from each conference (4 total) as elected.
Section B – The officers of the association shall include a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The Board of Directors shall elect the Executive Board Officers at the last regular meeting of the school year for the coming school year.
Section C – The length of term for each office shall be two years. Elections for President and Secretary shall alternate every other year, with the elections for Vice President and Treasurer.
Vacancies are to be filled by temporary appointments made by the Executive Board.
Section D – Items of business shall be considered and voted upon at general meetings open to principals, athletic directors, student activities directors, and such other school representatives as any member of the Executive Board may invite. |
Section A – The president shall prepare the agenda and shall preside at all meetings. The agenda shall include items submitted by the president and others as requested by any Board member. The president will likewise appoint all committees.
Section B – The vice-president shall, in the absence of the president, fulfill the duties of the president.
Section C – The secretary shall keep records and minutes of the meetings and shall distribute a sufficient number of copies to each member of the Board.
Section D – The treasurer shall handle all funds and pay bills. The treasurer shall prepare and present a financial report to the Board of Directors at each regular scheduled meeting. |
Section A - Athletic and Activities Directors will be responsible for establishing by-laws and procedures subject to approval by the Board of Directors. These by-laws and procedures should always reflect the priorities of the Kensington Lakes Activities Association. For Athletics they are the concept of division, conference, and association play, and practicality of scheduling. For Activities they are the promotion of leadership and diversity and the exchange of ideas.
Section B- Athletic Directors will meet on a monthly basis.
Section C - Student Activities Directors will meet as needed with conference and or association members. |
