4/16/18 - Continuing what has been an impressive season, The S.C.O.T.S. Bots, Howell High School’s FIRST Robotics Team claimed a Regional Chairman’s Award at the FIRST Robotics State Championship. The Chairman’s Award is the highest honor a FIRST Robotics team can achieve. It recognizes a team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST Robotics. To be invited to compete for a Chairman’s Award at the state event, a team much have earned a Chairman’s Award at a district competition with he S.C.O.T.S. Bots did at the Milford District Event earlier this year. Earning a Chairman’s Award at the state event automatically qualifies the team for the FIRST Robotics World Championship where they will once again be invited to compete for the Chairman’s Award.

In addition to earning the Chairman’s Award, the S.C.O.T.S. Bots had a notable showing during the state competition. The team finished qualifying rounds in 7th place in their division and were named the captain of the fifth seed alliance. The S.C.O.T.S. Bots were eliminated from the competition during the quarterfinals. Overall, the S.C.O.T.S. Bots came in 52 of 508 teams, which also qualified the team to compete at the FIRST Robotics World Championship.

While at the state championship event, the S.C.O.T.S. Bots accepted a certificate of recognition from Governor Rick Snyder honoring Howell Public Schools for its commitment to FIRST Robotics by offering the full progression of K-12 FIRST Robotics programs. Additionally, the team was the runner-up for the UL Safety Award.

The FIRST Robotics World Championship will be held April 25-28 at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Cobo Hall is located at 1 Washington Blvd., Detroit, MI 48226
