As the United Auto Workers strike against General Motors continues, Howell Public Schools realizes that some of its families may be facing hardships due to the loss of income caused by the strike. To help support these families, the district has compiled information on some resources that may be helpful for those affected.

If the strike has impacted a family member's employment or income, that family may be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals. Please visit to view the free and reduced-price school meal income guidelines or to download an application. If you have questions about the free and reduced-price school meals, please contact the Howell Public Schools Food Service Department at 517.540.8347 or by email at

Families affected by the strike may also be eligible to receive support from the Weekend Survival Kits Program. Weekend Survival Kits is a supplemental food program that provides meal kits on a bi-weekly basis. A typical kit will contain approximately two weekends worth of food servings that are discreetly sent home with students. The kits are free to eligible children who currently qualify for free or reduced school meals. Please visit to learn more about this program.

Additionally, the Livingston County Hunger Council has a list of community resources available at These resources include meal programs and community food pantries. For questions or additional support, please contact the counselor at your child's school.
