MacGregor's Message 3/23/18

Dear Families,

Howell High School’s annual Senior Survivor fundraiser will take place during the week of April 29. The list of Senior Survivors, forms to order t-shirts, and an online donation page can all be found at https://goo.gl/q1SEHc. Over the past ten years, this amazing event has raised more than $250,000 to support local charities. This year, Senior Survivor will benefit two organizations, LACASA and the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance.

On Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m., I will be giving the Third Annual State of the District Address. The event is free and open to all Howell community members. During the address, I will be providing updates on the current status of the district, as well as future plans. This year’s State of the District will be held at Three Fires Elementary School.

If you will have a kindergarten student next year but were unable to attend our Kindergarten Registration event on March 6, please register your child as soon as possible. This will help as we plan our staffing for the next school year. To register your child online, please visit the Kindergarten Registration webpage at https://goo.gl/k5pC8X. To register your child in person, please visit the district's Registration Office at 411 N. Highlander Way. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

This afternoon, second-grade students at Northwest Elementary hosted a wax museum as the final part of a research project on historical figures. Three Parker Middle School students have been named local winners in this year’s America and Me Essay Contest and last weekend our high school robotics team earned the Chairman’s Award at the First Robotics Competition Milford District Event. I have shared more on each of these stories below.

Whether your family is heading out of town or staying local for spring break, I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable break. Just a reminder that classes will resume on Tuesday, April 3.

Northwest Second Grade Students Host Wax Museum

Second-grade students at Northwest Elementary brought history to life when they hosted a wax museum. The wax museum was the final part of the class’s biography research project. For the project, students selected a historical figure and completed a thorough biography of them. For the wax museum, the students created a presentation on their historical figure and dressed up as that person to give their presentation.

Parker Students Named Local Winners in Essay Contest

Three eighth grade students at Parker Middle School have been named local winners in the 29th annual America and Me Essay Contest. Grace Fyke claimed first place, Lorien Ruth took second place, and Maria Pacitto claimed third place. Each student received a certificate of achievement. Additionally, as the first place winner, Fyke will have her named engraved on a plaque for display in the school. To read more about the essay contest, please visit https://goo.gl/zmSDbS.

S.C.O.T.S. Bots Win Chairman’s Award

This past weekend our high school FIRST Robotics Team the S.C.O.T.S. Bots claimed the coveted Chairman’s Award at the First Robotics Competition (FRC) Mildford District Event. The Chairman’s Award is the highest honor a team can earn at an FRC event and winning the award automatically qualifies the S.C.O.T.S. Bots to compete at the FRC State Championship next month.
