MacGregor's Message 12/13/19
Dear Families,

This weekend, all four of our middle school FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams are competing at the FIRST in Michigan FTC State Championship events. Teams KILTS, KAOS, KUDOS, and KRASH all advanced to the state finals based on their performance at various qualifying events. Last weekend two of our elementary FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams, the Voyager Viking Bots, and the Three Fires Dream Builders competed at the FIRST in Michigan FLL State Championship. In addition to the FLL teams that advanced to the state event, several of our FLL and FLL Junior teams earned awards at their competitions this year. Our middle schools and high school have finalized their orientation schedules for the 2020-21 school year. Both Highlander Way Middle School and Parker Middle School will hold their orientation on Thursday, August 13. Howell High School will host its orientation on Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12. To view the full orientation schedule, please visit http://bit.ly/35jnoPw.

The Howell High School Class of 2020 announced this year’s Senior Survivor charity. This year, the funds raised from Senior Survivor will benefit Special Olympics Michigan. Special Olympics is a wonderful organization that provides several athletic opportunities to individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Michigan has directly benefited our schools and students through its Unified Champion Schools athletic programs. Both of our middle schools and Howell High School participate in these outstanding programs that promote understanding and inclusion. You can view a video of the announcement at http://bit.ly/34nUmx2.

Last week, Dr. Vanessa Kessler, Michigan Department of Education Deputy Superintendent, visited our district. Our elementary FIRST Robotics program will host a FIRST Robotics showcase next month. The Livingston Educational Service Agency still has openings in its Great Start Readiness preschool programs for this year.

The holiday season is a time for traditions and memories. One of the traditions I started when I became superintendent in Howell was to create a holiday card featuring student artwork. This year’s card features artwork from Andrew, a kindergarten student at Southwest; Zoey, a third-grade student at Northwest; and Ryker, a first-grade student at Northwest. I hope you and your family have an enjoyable holiday filled with joy and happiness.
