Dear Families,
On Monday, we will honor and celebrate those who have served our country. While several events are planned in the county on that day, I want to mention a few that involve our students. Monday morning, the Howell High School Air Force JROTC unit will host the school’s annual Veterans Day Salute in the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center. The event is open to all veterans and will include refreshments beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a guest speaker starting at 9:15 a.m. This year’s speaker is Officer Don Banfield. Officer Banfield will speak about his experience serving in the US Marine Corps. You can read more about the program at http://bit.ly/2WUad4j. Following the Veterans Day Salute, the Howell High School Air Force JROTC unit will head to Downtown Howell to take part in the Livingston County Veterans Memorial ceremony at 11 a.m. I would like to thank and recognize all of the veterans who have served our country.
This weekend the Howell High School Performing Arts Department will present “Peter and the Starcatcher.” “Peter and the Starcatcher,” tells the tale of how an orphan with no name becomes Peter Pan. Performances are Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 10 at 2 p.m. Howell High School junior Meredith Frank created a trailer for the play which you can watch at http://bit.ly/2K0621D.
As the fall sports season comes to an end, I want to highlight some of our athletic accomplishments. Our girls cross country team had a strong finish at their regional competition where they claimed second place advancing them to the state finals where they took 22nd place. Last Sunday, the varsity pompon team claimed third place at the Mid American Pompon Hip Hop & High Kick Championship. The boys soccer team made it to the district semifinals before they were eliminated in an overtime loss to Detroit Country Day. Last but certainly not least, the girls volleyball team advanced to the district finals before being eliminated.
Lindsey Conyers, our Three Fires Elementary Pathways to Potential success coach, was recently honored with a statewide award. Next weekend, we will welcome robotics teams from around Michigan to Parker Middle School for a competition, and the Howell High School Drama Club will host a magical fundraiser. Success Coach Receives Award
We are very fortunate to have Pathways to Potential success coaches in three of our elementary schools. These coaches are employed by the Department of Health and Human Services and work in our buildings to provide support to our families. Recently, Lindsey Conyers, our Three Fires Elementary Success Coach, was honored with the 2019 Daniel Pfaff Leadership Award. Howell to Host FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Competition
On Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17, more than 60 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) middle school robotics teams will visit Parker Middle School when the Howell Highlander FIRST Robotics organization hosts two FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Qualifier competitions. Frozen Sing-Along to Raise Funds for HHS Drama Club
The Howell High School Drama Club is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, November 16 at 7 p.m. Children of all ages can join their favorite Disney characters for a special sing-along version of the hit movie Frozen. The fundraiser will take place at the Historic Howell Theatre. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
